<FONT COLOR="#AA0000">■ 內容簡介</FONT> 當一切都空掉了「自我」──沒有「我」、沒有「你」、沒有「他」、沒有「我們」、「他們」，也就沒有佛教、沒有基督教、沒有回教。因為既然已經沒有「任何人」。這些宗教怎麼可能存呢？只有「法」──恆當在流逝的淨法，只有清淨的現象在不斷流逝而已。 本書作者被譽為二十世紀的思想家，是當代泰國佛教的泰斗，擅長以現代思潮詮釋佛陀的本懷。 <FONT COLOR="#AA0000">■ 序</FONT> 1989年9月，我翻譯的第一本佛使者演講紀錄《菩提樹的心木》正式出版，佳評如潮，立刻引起華文佛教界的注意，驚訝於上座部佛教也有這種大乘思想的禪行高僧。 二年半來，我一直在研讀佛使尊者的作品，深深為之入迷。1990年2月初，出席曼谷「邁向二十一世紀的佛教」國際會議。會後，特別搭機前往泰國南部的叻坦尼，掛單於佛使尊者的「椿林」，體會那大自然中的佛法，遠離塵囂，返璞歸真，心靈彷彿經過洗滌一般，纖毫不染。盤桓一日夜，透過翻譯向這位「二十世紀的思想家」表達仰慕之音，並呈上中文譯本，蒙鼓勵再三，置於他的著作陳列室，與其他文字的版本一起供眾參閱。他也賜贈全套著作的英文本，要求我抽空譯出。 此後，凡有講華語的參訪者到他道場時，他都會提及這件事，偶爾還會捎來問候之意，或轉來他的新書。1990年9月16日，在台北召開的「虛雲老和尚一五○歲誕辰紀念會」上，我發表了一篇論文，題為「論中兩位禪者的禪法與道風」，將虛雲和尚與佛使尊者這位當代禪匠做一比較，虛雲老和尚為華人所熟知，因此該篇論文於佛使尊者著墨較多。論文發表後，詢之者眾，又蒙北京《法音》雜誌轉載，因而結交了不少亟想認識佛使尊者的讀友，我也介紹他們前往他的道場參訪。 當代泰國的宏法高僧，除了佛使尊者之外，還有一位住在泰國東北部的菩提那耶尊者，他的弟子也佛使尊者之外，還有一位住在泰國東北部的菩提那耶尊者，他的弟子也將他的著作英文本寄來給我，囑為譯成北海道場台北男眾佛學院上課時，有一位旁聽的馬來西亞華僧告知，菩提那耶尊者已於1991年12月圓寂。聞後悵然若失，明燈乍滅，眼目不再，益覺悔恨，未能在他生前呈上中文譯本，罪孽何其深重耶！ 在《菩提樹的心木》譯序中，我曾提到佛使尊者的另一個書《觀呼吸》即將出版，時至今，這張支票仍未兌現，讀友催請者逾百，使我羞慚萬分。其實，《觀呼吸》和《人類手冊》這本書都已經翻譯了一大半，繁重的工作讓我擱在一邊，我只能祈禱早日完成這許多翻譯計畫了。本書的問世，應可稍忍讀支們期待佛使尊者法乳之渴，也算是我的一種贖罪。 收錄在本書內的講稿杯有四篇，充分呈現佛使尊者痛快淋漓、直契空性、寬容豁達的作風。讀其文，如見其人，當能想像這位老和尚的灑脫了。 <FONT COLOR="#AA0000">■ 目錄</FONT> 譯序 法：世界的救星 Dhamma-the World Savior 何來宗教 No Religion 我們為什麼出生 Why Were We Born 佛法的二十四個面向 The 24 Dimensions of Dhamma 作者簡介 <FONT COLOR="#AA0000">■ 作者簡介</FONT> Buddhadasa Bhikkhu (Slave of the Buddha) went forth as a bhikkhu (Buddhist monk) in 1926, at the age of twenty.After a few years of study in Bangkok, he was inspired to live close with nature in order to investigate the Buddha-Dhamma.Thus, he established Suan Mokkhabalarama (The Grove of the Power of Liberation) in 1932, near his hometown. At that time, it was the only Forest Dhamma Center and one of the few places dedicated to Vipassana (mental cultivation leading to "seeing clearly"into reality) in Southern Thailand.Word of Buddhadasa Bhikkhu, his work, and Suan Mokkh spread over the years so that now they are easily described as "one of the most influential events of Buddhist history in Siam." Here, we can only mention some of the more interesting services he has rendered Buddhism. Ajahn Buddhadasa has worked painstakingly to establish and explain the correct and essential principles of original Buddhism. That work is based in extensive research of the Pali texts (sutta pitaka), followed by personal experiment and practice with these teachings. Then he has taught whatever he can say truly quenches dukkha.His goal has been to produce a complete set of references for present and future research and practice. Although his formal education only went as far as seventh grade and beginning Pali studies, he has been given five Honorary Doctorates by Thai universities.
