By and large, retailers are expecting upward trend in sales. They’ll open their stores early to draw in customers by offering various kinds of special promotions. This term comes from the idea that retail stores will generate enough sales to get them ‘in the black’ meaning profits in the company’s accounting, which are recorded in black as opposed to loss in red.
